Middleburry, VT- On a rainy Sunday morning, the Ephs took on the last day of the Panther Invite. Due to unforeseen rain, the doubles round against Middlebury was canceled and the singles round against Colby adjusted to best out of 5 formatting. There were 2 full scoring doubles and singles matches sent out.
In doubles, the pairing of Mia Thomann and Julia Zhang took on a different Colby duo than the previous night. Although they got off to a rocky start, the two kept bouncing and was able to secure the first win for the Ephs 8-5. Yuu Ishikawa and Ahn Lin teamed up today and while there were moments of brilliant net play by the duo, they ultimately fell 6-8.
On the singles side, Jane Ladaga faced off against a tricky opponent she previously fell to last spring. Ladaga was able to get a quick lead 5-2, but her opponent battled back to bring the set to a tiebreak. Ladaga fought hard, but ended up losing 6-7, 2-6. Annabelle Siegel took on an extremely tough opponent who forced her to rip many balls in order to finish the points. Siegel was able to keep the lead throughout the match and came out victorious with a score of 7-6, 6-3. Siegel went undefeated in play this weekend with a 5-0 record.
Given the 2-2 tie, Margaux Molyneux was sent out to a play a 10 point deciding tiebreak against a fellow freshman on Colby. Molyneux got down 0-3, but battled her way back into the breaker. Despite her aggressive play, she fell 6-10.
Head Coach Anik Cepeda commented “Today was a tough day to end the last match of the fall, but I hope they will use it as motivation for the spring. Shoutout to Annabelle Siegel for staying true to her game against a tricky opponent.”
This marks the end of the Ephs fall competition season, but they are looking forward to working hard in the off season. They will begin their spring season with an opening match against Swarthmore in early March.
