“I decided I’m going to go pre-fall and not summer,” Nili Lotan said of her latest designs, “because I really feel that by that time, people are done with summer.” Last season she distilled and went minimal, but no more. “I cut that and went back to my really layered looks but it does not take it away from the minimal luxury,” she said.

Layering up works well for her take on preppy, what she deemed “European collegiate.” Crest button structured jackets, stripes, cable-knit cashmere sweaters, classic trenchcoats, oxford shirting — all the prep staples were here but she styled them all with lived-in looking denim, a category she said is booming. “Every season we come up with a new style and it sells well we keep it and they all are performing well.”

Menswear was a big focus — she is eyeing a stand along men’s retail space in New York and plans to put more marketing might behind the category in 2024. It compliments the women’s collection with all the same prep classics but made for a man. “You can see the pairings,” she said of the two collections. “It’s always a partnership between the two.”
