Arianna Gerig Named NEWBA Week 5 Player of the Week



WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. – Williams College junior forward Arianna Gerig (Westport, Conn./Staples HS) has been named the New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) Division III Week 5 Player of the Week.
 
Gerig averaged 31.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 0.5 blocks in a pair of games this past week for the Ephs. She shot a combined 27 of 53 from the field (50.9%). She scored the most points in a single game in program history with 43 Wednesday evening at No. 10 Smith College. She shot 17 of 29 from the field (58.6%) and 8 of 10 from the free-throw line (80.0%), to go along with a team-high nine rebounds.
 
“Arianna had a spectacular game at Smith breaking our single game scoring record set by Melissa Skeffington ’03 who scored 36 points in 2002,” commented Eph head coach Pat Manning. “Arianna continues to lead the way on both ends of the court.”
 
Gerig also dropped game-highs of 20 points and five assists, to go along with nine rebounds, against visiting Wesleyan Saturday afternoon in Chandler Gymnasium.
 
Thus far this season Gerig in 10 games for the 6-4 Ephs leads the team in minutes played 348 (34.8), points 239 (23.9), rebounds 88 (8.8), assists 45 (4.5) and steals 21 (2.1).
