Odisha to Roll Out Subhadra Yojana Aid to 1.7 Lakh Women on April 24

In a landmark announcement aimed at reinforcing its commitment to women’s empowerment, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has declared that the eagerly anticipated financial assistance under the Subhadra Yojana will be officially disbursed on Panchayati Raj Divas, April 24.

The disbursement will take place during a special state-level programme organized in Puri, where thousands of women beneficiaries are expected to gather. The scheme, a flagship initiative of the Odisha government, is designed to offer direct financial support to women, thereby enhancing their economic independence and promoting gender equity across the state.

As part of the sixth phase of the Subhadra Yojana, over 1,70,000 women who had submitted their applications by the cut-off date of March 31 will receive ₹10,000 each in financial aid. This amount will be provided as a single disbursement, covering two instalments of ₹5,000 each. The move is being hailed as one of the most inclusive and far-reaching financial outreach efforts for women in Odisha’s recent history.

Speaking about the initiative, Deputy CM Pravati Parida stated, “Subhadra Yojana reflects our government’s unwavering commitment to women’s empowerment and grassroots development. On Panchayati Raj Divas, we celebrate the spirit of self-governance, and this initiative further strengthens our resolve to build an equitable and empowered society.”

The scheme’s implementation comes after significant groundwork laid by the government, which includes the mobilization of financial resources, verification of applications, and logistical arrangements to ensure the smooth and transparent disbursal of funds. The administration has emphasized that all eligible women will receive the promised amount directly in their bank accounts, in accordance with best practices for accountability and efficiency.

Launched with the goal of uplifting women from all walks of life, especially those in rural and underprivileged communities, the Subhadra Yojana aims to provide a cushion against economic hardship and encourage self-reliance among women. The initiative aligns with broader state policies focused on inclusive development, women-led entrepreneurship, and social justice.

The timing of the disbursal on Panchayati Raj Divas is symbolic, as it underscores the synergy between local governance and citizen-centric welfare policies. The day, which commemorates the strengthening of grassroots democracy in India, serves as a fitting occasion to roll out a scheme that puts power and financial agency directly into the hands of women at the community level.

With the successful rollout of its sixth phase, the Subhadra Yojana continues to expand its reach and impact, setting a benchmark for other states in implementing targeted welfare measures for women. As Odisha steps forward on its journey of inclusive development, initiatives like this are paving the way for a more equitable and prosperous future.
