Flipkart Partners with WE Hub to Boost Women Entrepreneurs in E-Commerce
In an important move to support women-owned businesses, Flipkart, a Walmart company and India’s leading e-commerce marketplace, teamed up with WE Hub, an impactful Government of Telangana initiative, to design and deliver a workshop on women entrepreneurs’ specific role in the digital commerce ecosystem.
The workshop took place in Hyderabad and was a way to strategically orient women entrepreneurs about the possibilities of e-commerce to grow their businesses. The purpose of the workshop was to inform and demystify the “e-commerce ecosystem” for over 100 women entrepreneurs by providing guidance on product listings, competitive pricing, stock management, and analytics to market their products to customers all over the country.
Empowering With Knowledge and Access
Flipkart and WE Hub’s partnership I have mirrored a common commitment to an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem that allows women, particularly those in micro and small enterprises, to flourish. The workshop empowered participants with practical training and listed ways to address the barriers that hinder them and compete in a dynamic digital economy.
“We are in the business of inclusive entrepreneurship at Flipkart,” said Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group. “It’s been a privilege to partner with WE Hub in pursuit of our belief in empowering women entrepreneurs by giving them access to tools, insights and opportunities on digital platforms. We sought to model real assistance in this workshop that would help women scale sustainably.”
Kumar also emphasized the broader objective: “Our goal is to foster an ecosystem that empowers MSMEs, women, and rural entrepreneurs to succeed and grow in the e-commerce space. The enthusiastic participation from the WE Hub community is a testament to the relevance and need for such initiatives.”
A Maidan for Advancement: Flipkart Samarth
The workshop was undertaken in the larger framework of Flipkart Samarth, a government initiative launched in 2019 to help MSMEs, artisans, and underserved communities, in particular women entrepreneurs. The program has created digital access and livelihood creation opportunities by working closely with government ministries, development agencies as well as civil society actors.
For example, through Flipkart Samarth, women entrepreneurs have built sustainable businesses using digital access to their customers and connected with millions of customers. Flipkart Samarth suggests a comprehensive set of resources and support – including onboarding, and business development mentorship supports.
The partnership aligns perfectly with WE Hub’s mission to support women connected to all backgrounds – be it rural/urban, tech/non-tech – on their journey to economic independence and resilience.
This workshop is an exciting milestone in the journey to building gender-inclusive commerce in India, providing aspiring women entrepreneurs with the tools, networks, and confidence required to compete in the national and global marketplace.
As India’s economy experiences unprecedented digital transformation, partnerships like this one between private corporations and government-led women-centric programs are vital to shaping a future where women are not just part of the economy, but lead the economy.
